ZPL label sizer

Paste ZPL and see exactly how much label it needs: the content's bounding box in dots and inches, and every standard Zebra size it fits on, including sizes it only fits rotated, so a 4-inch printhead never truncates a 6-inch-wide design.

Output carries a light watermark. Sign in and create a free API key; then every run here is watermark-free (500 credits a month, no card).

Rotated fits matter: a 4-inch printhead physically cannot print a 6-inch-wide design; it must be emitted rotated on a 4x6 feed. The converter handles that automatically.

About the Label sizer

The label sizer renders your ZPL and measures where the ink actually is. You get the content bounds in dots, millimetres and inches at the density you choose, and a list of standard Zebra label sizes the content fits on, upright or rotated.

It answers the two questions that waste the most label stock: is this design clipping at the edge, and could it print on a smaller (cheaper) label? A 4 by 6 shipping layout that only uses 4 by 3 of the label is a common find.

The ^PW and ^LL in the ZPL are honoured when present, so the sizer also tells you when the declared label size disagrees with the content.

Density and label size in dots

ZPL positions are printer dots, so the same label is a different number of dots at each density. Match the printer.

Questions

What label sizes does it know?

The same standard Zebra stock sizes the label-size dropdown offers everywhere on the site, in inch and millimetre families, from small product labels up to 4 by 6 shipping labels. Each fit is checked upright and rotated 90 degrees.

Why is my content bigger than the label?

ZPL positions are in dots, and dots depend on density. A layout written for 203 dpi is 1.5 times larger on a 300 dpi printer. Set the sizer to the density the ZPL was written for.

Does it change my ZPL?

No. It only measures. Use the config builder to set ^PW and ^LL once you know the size you want.
